Landscape Being Readjusted

The landscape of the NCAA is receiving a significant amount of reconstructive surgery, and fans betting on which teams will move where, have plenty to wager on. Placing bets online for college football has never been more exciting as teams such as Nebraska and Texas look to spice up conferences such as the Big 10 and Pac 10. With Nebraska moving to the Big 10, some of the other teams in the Big 12 would leave for the Pac 10 making it one super conference with two divisions.

The two biggest schools to move from the Big 12 include Nebraska and Texas. Once Nebraska becomes the 12th team in the Big 10, it will legitimize the Big 10 in a football capacity, as most of the schools in that conference are recognized for their basketball programs. Further, the television deal, the Big 10 could secure by Nebraska joining, could be one of the biggest deals in the history of the NCAA.

Conversely, along with Texas, the other five schools that would move to the Pac 10 would make that conference into a 'super conference' as it already has perennial power house teams Oregon, USC and Stanford. Once Texas and company join the Pac 10, two divisions will be created, which will then result in playoffs, for the teams to qualify for bowl games.

Further, by Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State moving to the Pac 10, and Nebraska jumping to the Big 10, the four remaining teams in the Big 12 of Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor and Missouri, become the odd ones out. As a result, many experts are speculating, that the four remaining Big 12 teams, might tag along with Nebraska and form a super conference in the Big 10. However, if that does not work, they may end up joining the SEC or ACC conferences to form super conferences.

By the end of the day, the idea of merging is to make the most money, and by having the Big 12 dismantle and form super conferences with the other conferences, the revenue per school will be through the roof.

2011 BCS Championship Odds Released

Let's talk a little bit about NCAA point spreads a little bit. Well, the truth is that there aren't any to talk about since the racebook is rolling with The Preakness about to go off (and the Belmont upcoming) and the playoffs in both the NBA and NHL taking center stage, but even so, we finally have some college football futures for the 2011 season.

Before you pick up your football betting guide - or before they are even printed - you should really consider the Alabama Crimson Tide as the best football team around as we head into the coming season. They are the national champions, the Florida Gators lost Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Joe Haden and a slew of other talent, the Ohio State Buckeyes are so-so and the USC Trojans lost Pete Carroll.

If there ever was a clear path for a repeat, it is this year for the Crimson Tide.

The Tide were undefeated in 2010 and they return quite a few players. The defense might have some questions as Kareem Jackson, Terrence Cody and Rolando McClain are graduated to the NFL but the truth is that the offense could be ridiculously good with the Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram back along with backfield mate Trent Richardson and quarterback Greg McIlroy, who has still never lost a football game that he has started.

The odds aren't great, but if you're betting anyone at this point, take Alabama.

Recruiting Day Wrap up

While it has been a busy day in the college football landscape, the Super Bowl odds are still the main story of the week. Nonetheless, here is a recap of recruiting day:

Florida Gators

At first, it looked like Urban Meyer would be retiring and the Florida Gators would be at a loss of direction. Then he decided to come back after he was feeling much better and the Gators all of the sudden end up with the best recruiting class around.

The Gators came off as bandits with one of the best recruiting classes of all-time. The Gators had the best recruiting class across the board and they will be powerhouses for years to come.

USC Trojans

Lane Kiffin switched jobs from Tennessee to USC and the Trojans didn’t miss a beat. A lot of people were wondering how things would be post Pete Carroll but obviously recruiting won’t be a problem. The Trojans nabbed the second-best class of recruits and should continue to be the Pac 10 leaders.

Auburn Tigers

The Auburn Tigers were the biggest surprise on recruiting day as they picked up several key recruits. The Tigers were not expected to be among the Top 10 teams or even the best classes in the nation but they came off very well.

The excitement is back Auburn after a day with 27 signees.

Who Should Go To The Big Bowls?

While checking out this weekend’s Florida vs Alabama odds, you should remember that the BCS selection show is on Sunday night, when the participants for the year’s biggest bowls will be announced. Here is our predictions:

Rose Bowl

No prediction here: Oregon defeated Oregon State 37-33 in an intense “Civil War” to win the Pac-10, and now they’ll go on to face Ohio State, who hasn’t been to Pasadena since a New Years Day win over Arizona State in 1997.

Sugar Bowl

This game should get the loser of Florida/Alabama, which means the Crimson Tide should have a chance to avenge their loss to Utah last year. The Crimson Tide should take on Iowa, who manage to sneak into the BCS bowls despite not winning the Big Ten. Alabama will be a favorite in your online sportsbook no matter who they play.

Fiesta Bowl

This is a game that absolutely needs to happen: TCU vs Boise State in a clash of the two best teams from smaller conferences. Neither really deserves to play in the BCS title game due to weak schedules, especially Boise State, and this would be my online sportsbook bet for the best game of the bowl season.

Orange Bowl

Last year pitted the ACC and Big East championships together in Miami, and it should again this year. Georgia Tech and Cincinnati have to get through their championship games this weekend, and this would be a contest of two teams on the outer edge of college football’s elite.

BCS National Championship Game

Tim Tebow ends his career with his third national-championship appearance in four years, and he’s already 2-for-2. Colt McCoy was destined for stardom since walking on the campus at Austin, and he had some giant shoes to fill after Vince Young left for the NFL. This will be one of the toughest college football predictions to make all bowl season in your online sportsbook.
